Interview: B.G. – Coming Of Age

B.G. is in his 2nd childhood it seems. Coming into the game as a 13 year old, B.G. was the first enlistee to the Cash Money army (better yet, the Navy) Since he got in the game, he’s fought drug abuse, parted ways with his past labelmates, sold millons of records, and cemented himself as a certified rap star.

B.G. has lived enough of life for 3 people. But B.G. isn’t done living. Since leaving Cash Money, B.G. has gone one to drop several independent albums, form a link with T.I. and assert himself as a business man with his label Chopper City.

His latest disc “2 Hood 2 be Hollywood” is B.G. at his best. Spitting alongside Rick Ross, Trey Songz and (gasp) Lil Wayne and Baby, “2 Hood 2 be Hollywood” has the makings of another Gizzle classic.

B.G. stopped to talk with wordonthestreetsmag.com about his new album, his relationship with Grand Hustle, and how Baby helped him drop his current album.

wordonthestreetsmag.com: Talk about your new album. I heard you reunited with some of your old label mates.

B.G.: The new album is called “2 Hood 2 B Hollywood” we just shot the video with Manny Fresh called “My Hood” Manny produced it. The album is real straight forward, to hood to be Hollywood. Its for the streets and the streets are going to love it. I got a single called “Back to the Money” and we got a remix for “2 Hood to be Hollywood” featuring Rick Ross and Baby.

wordonthestreetsmag.com: What’s going on with Grand Hustle?
B.G.: I was never was signed to Grand Hustle. I was signed to Atlantic. When I signed to Atlantic, T.I. came on and was executive producer of my album. Then he got into that situation and Atlantic ended up pushing my album back, and pushing it back. It was Baby who came in and said that he would buy out my contract so I can put the album out. So we worked out something where we could put the album out on E1 and Chopper City records. After this album, I don’t owe Atlantic nothing.

wordonthestreetsmag.com: That’s the second time you’ve spoke of Baby in this conversation. Is there a chance we can see a reunion with you Baby and Cash Money?

B.G.: You never know. Me and Baby talk on a regular basis. I’m welcome to come back home. Anything I need or want, I got it. I’m good right now. After I drop this album, then I’m just signed to Chopper City. I wont be signed to E1, I wont be signed to Atlantic. I’ll be able to really be on my own and whoever offers the best deal and the best situation, then that’s who I’m rolling with.
