New Era: Jagged Edge

The 90’s was great era for hip-hop but it was equally great for R&B. Many acts have come and go since then, but the foursome of Jagged Edge has seemed to have staying power. Since their dropping their debut single “The Way That You Talk” back in 1997, JE has been a regular site on the R&B scene.

With 2 Gold albums and 2 platinum LP’s as well as smash singles like “Walked Out Of Heaven” and “Lets Get Married” under their belts, Jagged Edge is back with a new single and a new record label.

No longer with JD and So So Def, Jagged Edge is ready to show why they should go down as one of the greatest R&B acts of all time. Kyle and Wingo of Jagged Edge chopped it up with wordonthestreetsmag.com to talk about their new music, their new label home and how they feel about the current music scene

Wordonthestreetsmag.com:
What’s up fellas! Question number one, where have yall been?

Kyle: Man we’ve been locked up (laughs)

Wingo: We haven’t went anywhere. We’ve been working and putting out new material. We have a new label now with Slip-N-Slide and we feel good right now.

Wordonthestreetsmag.com: So what can we expect from Jagged Edge?

Wingo: We’re going to give you the hot up tempo’s. We’re going to hit you with those classic type songs that Jagged Edge always bring you. Just with a new flavor.

Wordonthestreetsmag.com:
For years you were signed to So So Def and now you’re with Slip-N-Slide.

Wingo: And it’s been great so far. They’ve done what they’re supposed to do and what they’ve said that they were going to do and that’s all you can really ask.

“I would tell acts today to just be yourself. You have to truly love music. You will always bump the Isley Brothers, O’Jays, and acts like that are always going to be around and listened to. Stay true to your craft and love the music and you will have a career.”~Kyle

Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Do you have a single out right now?

Kyle: Yeah. The first single is called “Tip of my Tongue” featuring Trina and Gucci Mane You can use your imagination for what that’s about (laughs) We’re pretty much talking about a girl who’s always on your mind and that you’re talking about her all the time.

Wordonthestreetsmag.com: JE has been on the scene since 1997. How does it feel to still be around and still be relevant?

Wingo: It’s a blessing to be still relevant. We stay working whether it be over here or over seas. Right now we’re working on a new project and we’re collaborating with all the hottest artists in Atlanta.

Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Can you tell us about the disc? Who did you collab with? Who did the music?

Kyle: There are not a lot of features on the CD, but we do have some hot new producers. We’re finished it, but we’re still working on it so I don’t want to give away too much.

Wordonthestreetsmag.com: How do you feel about the current music scene?

Kyle: Everybody has something to offer. Whether its bump and grind songs, uptempo songs, there’s a lot of good music out there right now.

Wordonthestreetsmag.com: What would you tell new artists and acts who are trying to get on right now?

Kyle: I would tell acts today to just be yourself. You have to truly love music. You will always bump the Isley Brothers, O’Jays, and acts like that are always going to be around and listened to. Stay true to your craft and love the music and you will have a career.
