Unsigned Hype: Diamonds Are Forever – Poe

downloadfile-29
Poe  is the definition of the traveler’s mentality that has taken over in hip-hop. While there are some that yell East Coast, or Down South, the fact of the matter is, everybody is everywhere right now. You find East Coast cats in the South and vice versa, all trying to have their talent seen minus gimmicks and routines.

Born and raised in the Bronx New York, Poe came to Houston Texas in search of making his hip-hop dreams come true. Its looking like a great move right now. Combining with his business partner Diamond, Poe has caused a storm in H-Town with his mixtape “Paper Over Everything”

Taking a page out of the Jay-Z book of “How to build a label and your own career all at once” he moonlights as an artist and CEO. With a stable of hungry artists and a business state of mind, don’t be shocked if Poe Diamonds Ent is the next big thing out the South, with some East Coast influence.

Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Talk about your background. Where are you from?

Poe: I from the Mecca! I’m from the Bronx. I was around the KRS-One’s and the Scott La Rock’s, BDP and all that. Kool Herc and Africa Bambata used to live in my building.

Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Was it hard making a transition from NYC to H-Town?

Poe: Its all that you make it. I was always that type of dude that even when I was in New York I didn’t segregate myself. I used to be in ATL, Virginia, all that. I didn’t take too long to get used to Houston.

Wordonthestreetsmag.com: And now you’re in Houston and running a label. What made you start your label?

Poe: Hurricane Katrina hit. I met my dude Just James. He‘s from the West Bank all day and when Katrina hit he migrated to here. I always dipped and dabbled in the game when I was back in New York. I worked with cats in the Memphis Bleek camp, Swizz Beatz, all of them is my partners. I looked at him and I saw his talent and it was like “Let me get back to this and doing what I want to do” You know there aint nothing like getting and doing what you want to do.

My partner Diamond, he introduced me to Just James. From there we went and did it up. We got the LLC and opened up a production studio and ever since we been hitting up these H-Town streets with these good music.

Wordonthestreetsmag.com:
Talk about the mixtape P.O.E

Poe: P.O.E (Paper Over Everything) that’s a little introduction of me. I’m the CEO of POE Diamonds Ent. My artists are really breaking ground here in the south and they really getting it in. That gave me the lane to want to step out and show what I could do too. I did and I got a crazy big response.

I got a single called “Block Party” and I got a single that’s co-produced by my producer Cash called “Jerk It” and it’s a real dance song. I got 3 singles “Napoleon Dynamite” by two youngsters on my label.

Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Where are we going to see Poe Diamonds Ent in the near future?

Poe: Winning awards (laughs) We’re going to be at Spring Bling. By the grace of God we’ll be nominated for something for one of these tracks that we’ve done or one of these tracks that we’ve produced. I got 6 artists, Just James, B-Shot, Money Monroe, Gator, B-13, Cash, Trackwell and Myself. One of us is going to spit out a hit. You gonna see us at somebody’s award shows winning something!
