When you hear Louisville Kentucky the last thing you think of is hip-hop. The hometown of the great Muhammad Ali, Louisville has and always will be a strong bed for country music more than it ever will be for hip-hop.
But that could change all this year with The Miz. The youngest in charge has been at the fore front of the Louisville hip-hop scene since before his hit double digits in age. With a great management team in place, a hot new single and with a slew of mixtapes coming down the pipeline, The Miz looks like he could be called The Savior sooner than later
The Miz talked to wordonthestreetsmag.com about his new mixtapes, his new single and how he’s gonna take Louisville from country hot bed to hip-hop hot spot.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com: I heard you got into the game when you were young. How did you get into hip-hop?
The Miz: I started rhyming when I was 9 years old doing karaoke. When I was doing that I bumped into a person who was into music. From there I was put into a group called “The Young Riders” Now I’m a solo artist.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com: So who is “The Miz” for those who haven’t heard you yet?
The Miz: (laughs) I have 3 personalities inside of me. I’m trying to be more like Michael Jackson and have something for everybody. I’ve been working. I’ve been doing this for over ten years. I’ve been working and been grinding.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com: What are you working on right now?
The Miz: Right now I’m working on a mixtape. I have 3 discs dropping this year. I have one with Dj Scream dropping soon and another with Dj Whoo Kid. I’m also going to do one that I host myself. Those will all be out around mid-February.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Those are some big names co-signing you. How did you get Scream and Whoo Kid to put their names on the line for you?
The Miz: I have a good team around me and they’ve helped me get everything together. Dove hooked me up, she does work! And my manager Lil Dee who used to managed Static Major has been big.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Talk about your new single “I Can Do You Better”
The Miz: I have a single called “I Can Do you Better” It’s just me basically telling a girl that I can do you better than your man. (laughs)
Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Coming out of Louisville Kentucky has to be hard for a hip-hop artist.
The Miz: It is hard coming up and trying to come out in Louisville. For the most part we’re know for county music. That’s how it is out here. We’re not really known for anything but country. We’re not on the map. We had Static Major but that‘s been it!
You have to go places to really get your name though. I feel like I can be that dude who puts the city on the map. We have a whole bunch of talent out here.
